Could perfectionism be linked to personal safety?

Perfectionism linked to Safety

So many of my clients and even myself grew up with feelings that we needed to be perfect, to be safe.

That perfectionism, (not doing anything until you know it can be perfect), comes from the childhood fear of being abandoned, or unloved, or perhaps even abused if you ever messed up.

Perfectionism is a survival tactic that you learned as a child to keep yourself safe.

Maybe now as an adult; it’s time to let it go.
