We Desire to do Better, So What Stops Us?
Often it is our own subconscious programming about what is, or what may be possible, that stops us.
For example, in sporting competitions, we often set a goal in our minds and once we reach that goal we have a hard time surpassing it.
Just imagine your golf score, and think of all the things that you tell yourself when you are out on the course. All that mental chatter about what you are capable of, or what your top score is or was. Or maybe you are telling yourself stories of why your swing is off, or that you suck at putting. Perhaps you have a competitor that is hard to beat, so you tell yourself stories about how they always have a better score than you, or you just don't have what it takes to outplay them.
These are all just limiting beliefs about our abilities, that are stuck in our subconscious minds and we will very often create our own personal limitations and self-sabotaging behaviors based on these beliefs and stories.
We may also tell ourselves stories and have ingrained beliefs about ourselves when it comes to asking for promotions or applying for new positions of work.
There may also be fears that limit us; like who will we be if we attain that goal, that position, that fame?
There may be fears that the success may go to our heads or that we will become someone we wouldn't necessarily admire?
Or what will our family and friends have to say if we lose weight, get in shape, take the new job, make it big, or become the best at something? Will we still be accepted and loved?
Imagine that you failed a test, and now every time you have to take a test you freeze up and just can't think.
That is simply our subconscious mind trying to protect us, in its own errant way.
These are all examples of how our own minds can unconsciously keeping us from hitting targets that we say we want.
