Fear of Water, My Story
I remember going to the lake and diving under the water to retrieve things as a young kid. I took swimming lessons and had so much fun in the water!
Until that day…
I was a teenager and a bunch of us were playing king of the castle on a raft in the lake. I got knocked off the raft into the water. Just as I was reaching the surface for air, someone else got knocked off the raft and hit me driving me back down into the water. I was running out of air and just as I was almost to the surface once again, another person got tossed off the raft, hitting me and knocking me back down in the water. I was out of air and fighting for the surface.
I vividly remember having those flashes of my life pass before me and I thought I was going to drown.
Luckily I reached the surface gasping, taking in water and sputtering, so happy to have a breath of air.
From that day forward I was afraid to be in water over my head. I was afraid to be around too many people in the water, in fact one or two people near me was enough. When everyone else was out having fun and swimming in the deep water, I was hanging out in the shallow water or sitting on the beach. Even as I got older and had kids of my own, I still had that paralyzing fear. I would swim with them sometimes with a life jacket on, but would not join them and my husband in all the water sports, because I was absolutely terrified of being dunked.
Years later we were planning a trip to Mexico and it had always been a dream of mine to go snorkelling in the ocean. I was a Tapping practitioner at this time and I knew I could work on this and probably make it better. I called another practitioner that I knew and we worked on my fear of the water and the trauma of almost drowning. My husband and I went to Mexico that winter and I was able to go snorkelling and experience the beautiful colourful fish and turtles. I was able to play in the ocean waves with the water splashing over my head, just simply having fun! I still have respect for water, and water safety, but that fear that had kept me on the sidelines for so long is gone.
I am so very thankful for Tapping. If you have fears that keep you from enjoying life to the fullest, there is help, reach out and book your appointment today!
