Do You Have Clutter?

Sometimes clutter can cause us to feel overwhelmed.  I know there have been times in my life where I wanted to clear the clutter in my house but I was lost as to where to start.

I always recall the joke, “how do you eat an elephant?” “One bite at a time.”

This is a great approach to clutter as well.  Just pick one room and start; one bite.

Boxes, bins or baskets - Label one for each room in your house, as well as one for charity, one for garbage and one to sell. As you move from room to room clearing, organizing, and discarding, be sure to sort the stuff that belongs to specific rooms into that room's box.

Efficiency - Don’t make trips to the other room with one or two items because you will inevitably get distracted in the other room (believe me, I have done this MANY times!).  You may have to rearrange or make some space for items that you have found in other rooms, but that will take less time than going back and forth.

Lack or Guilt Assessment - Make sure to really assess the items that you choose to keep. Some people keep a lot of stuff that isn’t necessarily useful to them anymore, out of a sense of lack. Fearing that someday they may need it and won’t be able to afford to buy it again. Some people keep things that they never use out of a sense of obligation or guilt, because it was a gift or great grandma’s treasured piece. It may have been great grandma’s treasured item, but is it yours? Can you take a photo of it and keep it for remembrance without having the physical item taking up space? If someone gifted you something that you never use or don’t like, can you gift it to someone who may actually enjoy it? Or can you just remove it from your space, so it is not taking valuable energy away from you.

What if by letting go of the STUFF we no longer need we are making space for better things to come in to our lives?

If you are having trouble with the emotions around clearing the clutter from your space, or letting go of things because of guilt or obligation. If you are feeling overwhelmed at the thought of just starting the process of clearing clutter; EMOTIONAL WELLNESS AND TAPPING CAN HELP.

When you have less clutter in your surroundings, you will find that your mind will feel less confused and cluttered as well. You will feel calm, clear minded and more peaceful inside.
